Liam Gallagher to perform at Joshua vs. Dubois

Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher will perform ahead of Anthony Joshua‘s heavyweight title fight against Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September, promoters Matchroom boxing announced on Friday.

Gallagher has forged a successful solo career since splitting from the band he formed with brother Noel, performing his own songs as well as some of Oasis’ biggest hits.

The fight will be Joshua’s first bout since defeating Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia via a stunning second round knockout in March.

Two-time world champion Joshua is on a four-fight winning streak and is looking to reestablish himself as a major name in the heavyweight division.

Dubois has won his past two fights, stopping Jarrell Miller in December and Filip Hrgovic on June 2 but the face off with Joshua will be the biggest of the 26-year-old’s career to date.

“That’s just where I’m aiming for, to fight the best and be the best,” Dubois said at a news conference on Wednesday.

“AJ’s been the king for a long time and on the night, I need to become a king slayer and that’s my goal, that’s the mission at hand.

“I’m learning more about myself as a fighter, as a person, coming out of the darkness and into the light, improving all round as a fighter and as an athlete. I’m up for this and ready to go.”

With fights against Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury potentially in the offering for the winner, Joshua insisted he hasn’t overlooked Dubois.

“Correct, next man up,” Joshua Said. “Congratulations to Daniel for winning his last fight. I’ve been having Dubois on my mind for a while and he’ll be on my mind for the next 12 weeks until I get my hand raised.

“The goal is just getting through a successful training camp, performing on the night and the shiny stuff comes at a later date.”

In a video posted to social media on Tuesday, undisputed world champion Usyk said he would vacate his IBF crown as a “present” to Joshua and Dubois — setting them up for the face-off on September 21.
